CHRISTOPHER JAMES WILSON: Bringing The Richness of Life to Canvas

The British grandfather of Christopher James Wilson placed a watercolor set in his hands at the impressionable age of 13. This gift led to novice oil paintings, inspired by still life and pastoral landscapes within Christopher's childhood home in rural New Jersey. Not until almost ten years later had Christopher discovered his passion for and innate appeal to figures and portraiture.

After graduating from Stevens Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering, Christopher focused on fine-tuning his painting skills. Ambitiously, he attended Manhattan's School of Visual Arts to study portraiture for four years under the well-accomplished artist Marvin Mattelson. Mattelson, a painter and teacher for over thirty years, took first place in the 2006 Portrait Society of America's International Portrait Competition for His Eminence Edward Cardinal Egen. He was Christopher's mentor and had a major influence on his artwork.

Christopher's technical skills developed in engineering school, combined with his acute sense of aesthetic detail, create photo-realistic portraiture that pays homage to the greats Sargent and Bouguereau. Christopher's artistic purpose is simple: create something beautiful, for that is what inspires him.
